I lived in a tent for three months on a beach in Western Australia. The memories of that time are some of the best I have. Waking every morning to sunshine, pulling on my bikini and walking a few paces to the water’s edge for my morning swim. Cooking breakfast over the gas stove, lazing on the beach, enjoying the simplicity of life.

The Perfect Getaway – Ballyvolane House, Co. Cork

On my last visit to Waterford we couldn’t get out of the car for the rain. I promised I’d return in sunnier times and this weekend seemed as good as any. We packed our bags, heading southward bound and here’s my first tip  – come off the motorway at Cahir and weave through the countryside, over the Knockmealdown Mts via the Vee Drive. The narrow, winding road offers wonderful views over the lush fields of Tipperary and as you head further south, Cork is laid out before you.

A Few Of My Favourite Lunch Stops Around Ireland

It’s no surprise my waistline expanded during my travels around Ireland. How could it not with so many delicious breakfasts, lunch stops, afternoon teas and dinner banquets?

I can’t say I ate in every cafe and restaurant in Ireland, this simply would not have been possible, but I made a good stab at it. Below are a few places that stand out in my mind for having great food and ambience, two essential elements to guarantee a good lunch stop.

My Best Breakfast in Ireland

There is nothing better than an undisturbed night’s sleep followed by a breakfast of freshly squeezed orange juice, seasonal fruits and yoghurt, poached eggs, or pancakes with maple syrup and the all important, coffee. What smell is better than that of freshly brewed coffee in the morning? Bliss.

Food, Glorious Food

I love food. Let me clarify, I love good food. On holidays, I awake to thoughts of what will be on the breakfast buffet; fresh local fruit, baked pastries and a variety of home-made breads and jams. Freshly brewed coffee and eggs of some type. Whilst eating breakfast I fantasize what I will have for lunch. Afternoons are spent prowling side-streets in search of the perfect dinner venue. Peering in restaurant windows, reading menus and eyeing other diners dishes is akin to visiting a museum for me.
